If you have a school-aged child in need of breakfast and lunch this summer (or know of someone who does), simply text "FOOD" to 877877 and receive a message back with a location closest to where they can get free summer meals.
Community Storehouse solicits, warehouses, and distributes both perishable and nonperishable groceries to local families living below the poverty line. Our food programs focus on children, the working poor, disabled, elderly, and otherwise disadvantaged living in Martinsville and Henry County, Virginia.
Every week volunteers collect thousands of pounds of produce, dairy, meat, bakery goods, and shelf-stable items from local grocers, community businesses, churches, and civic groups. Thousands of pounds of high-quality, nutritious food that would otherwise be discarded is rescued - or generously donated - and delivered to where it's needed most.
Community Storehouse has a 16,000 square-foot thrift store (the organization's largest fundraiser) which doubles as a training site for several federal programs, from individuals currently on welfare being rehabilitated into the workforce, to seniors needing recent job references and skills training.
