About the Program

No child should go hungry over the weekend.

Many children in our community rely on school meals as their primary source of nutrition. When Friday afternoon arrives and the school week ends, that safety net disappears — leaving food-insecure kids without reliable meals for two or more days.

Our Food for Kids program bridges that gap. Each week, Community Storehouse packs bags filled with nutritious, kid-friendly foods and sends them home discreetly with enrolled students every Friday.

The program is completely free to families and is made possible entirely through community donations and volunteer support.

How It Works

From our shelves to their backpacks

Step 1

Identified at School

School counselors and staff identify students who are food insecure and enroll them in the program confidentially.

Step 2

Bags Are Packed

Each week our volunteers pack bags with kid-friendly, nutritious foods — enough to keep a child fed through the weekend.

Step 3

Sent Home on Fridays

Bags are discreetly placed in backpacks or sent home with students every Friday so no child goes hungry over the weekend.

Step 4

Community Supported

The program runs entirely on donations and volunteer hours from caring members of the Martinsville & Henry County community.
